COLORFUL BEACHES, DIVINE SUNSET AND UNFORGETABLE MOMENT.
Canggu is a hipster area located on the West coast of Bali, North of Seminyak, which is typically known for its surf community. Stretching between Kerobokan and Echo Beach, Canggu is full of colorful beachfront bars, surf ready waves, wholefood cafes, hipsters and beach babes. It’s where rice field vistas meet volcanic black sand beaches and you don’t have to compromise on dining and nightlife. An expat enclave and the island’s newest tourist hotspot shopping and dining options in Batu Bolong are ever evolving. If you get bored walking around the Kuta or Denpasar area because it’s already too crowded with tourists, try directing your tourist destinations to the Canggu area, which is now a favorite of travelers.
Canggu has all the potential to make it a new favorite for travelers. The Canggu area is a favorite surfing destination on the south of Bali with views of rice fields and beaches which can be accessed within 45 minutes from Ngurah Rai international airport. The beauty of Canggu Beach with a length of 9.6 kilometers located on the edge of the Indian Ocean is well known by the public at large. When other beaches have lost their local identity, Canggu Beach is still able to retain its distinctive Indonesian character, with rice paddies as part of the surrounding scenery and one of the best waves for surfing in Bali. The white sand is still clean, really beautiful to be enshrined on Instagram, or just to lay down to enjoy the warmth of the sun and read your favorite book.
HOW TO GET CANGGU
Canggu is within 45 minutes drive from Ngurah Rai International Airport. Canggu is situated on the West Coast of Bali, roughly 19km from the International Airport and north of spots like Kuta (15km away) and Seminyak (10km away). A fair price from the airport to Canggu by taxi is IDR 150. 000 or around 10 USD. After you pass customs, you will see a taxi counter before you enter through the Duty Free Shop. Here you get the cheapest fares without having to deal with the five million taxi drivers when you exit.
THINGS TO DO IN CANGGU
- Enjoy Sunset at The Beach.
Canggu is known for its amazing surf and black sand beaches, but it’s also one of the best places on the island to watch the sunset. The best place to watch the sunset is at Echo Beach, the famous Echo Beach House. It’s the perfect sea front spot to grab a cool beer or cocktail and watch the last surfers of the day. But there are five main beaches around Canggu ;
1. Batu Mejan Beach / Echo Beach.
This is one of the most popular beaches in Canggu, the crowd is almost the same as Canggu Beach. Many surfers thronged Echo Beach to try out the big waves. It is not advisable to swim here and almost reliable surfers play here. Another advantage of Echo Beach is there are many stalls, restaurants and cafes that you can relax while waiting for the beautiful sunset over.
2. Canggu Beach.
Located next to Echo Beach, Canggu Beach offers a similar atmosphere. Black sand and waves suitable for surfing. If you want to learn to surf, the waves here are quite friendly to the beginner level compared to Echo Beach. But for those who don’t like crowds, maybe Canggu Beach is not the right place for you. There’s the busy Old’s Man Bar by the car park where you can get drinks and food after sunset. You can find plenty of cafes or with beanbags on the beach, with chill out music floating out from the speakers.
3. Batu Bolong Beach.
Batu Bolong Beach is one more alternative beach in Canggu for you who want to enjoy a relaxing time before sunset. Batu Bolong Beach is not as busy as Canggu and Echo Beach. If you visit Batu Bolong Beach you’ll have a great view of the sunset with surfers on the waves.
4. Berawa Beach.
Different from other beaches in Canggu, Berawa Beach has golden sand. The view of the sunset is very beautiful. So do not be surprised if there are two famous beach clubs here which be a favorite place namely the Finns Beach Club and Vue Beach Club. In Berawa Beach there are also many locals who take their dogs for a walk on the beach while relax and see the sunset.
5. Pererenan Beach / Nelayan Beach.
. This atmosphere gives Pererenan Beach be a nice sunset ambiance. There’s also a nice restaurants overlooking the water by the car park where you can eat freshly grilled seafood and have a drink. If you want to visit a less busy beach I recommend Perenenan Beach.
Note : Less than a dollar you can entrance those beaches in Canggu.
- Visit Tanah Lot Temple.
Have you heard about Tanah Lot ? Tanah Lot Temple is one of the busiest tourist attractions in Bali is located 30 minutes from Canggu. The Tanah Lot Temple is Bali’s most famous sea temple, situated in a breath-taking complex, this is the best temple in Bali to see the sunset from this sea temple. There are other shrines and temples along the shore, forming a picturesque landscape. You can take in the views and explore all this for an entrance fee of IDR 30,000, but be prepared it might get a little crowded with tourists (everyone is there at sunset). A lot of people said that the best time to enjoy Tanah Lot Temple is close to sunset time, I agree on that. Here also best place to see the culture like Kecak Dance which will complete your day at Tanah Lot Temple. Have you watch Kecak Dance with magical sunset ? Here is the best place for you. Come and watch it !
- Go exploring Canggu on a bike or scooter.
Canggu is not overly car friendly and is reasonably spread out so a great way to get around is to hire a scooter or bike. A scooter or a bike is the best way to get around Canggu, and incredibly cheap as well – just make sure to wear a helmet and watch out on the road, because it gets pretty hectic. Scooters can be rented for as little as IDR 70.000 – IDR 100.000 per day and some even come with surfboard racks. Make sure you take a ride through the path surrounded by tranquil rice paddy fields which leads from Berawa to Batu Bolong.. The roads and driving can be a bit crazy at times so think about getting a helmet as well.
- Do a Yoga.
In Canggu, there are loads of yoga centers which offer a wide variety of classes from acro yoga, Vinyasa, to Surfer’s Yoga Classes. All props are provided along with a glass of delicious lemongrass tea.
- Go Surfing or Take Surf Lesson.
Canggu is one of the most popular places in Bali for surfers and it’s a good place to learn how to surf because of the variety of waves for all levels. There’s a number of surf schools out at Echo Beach and most offer a combination of theory followed by practical lessons in the water. You can arrange a surf lesson at one of the stalls on the parking lot. You’ll see two places where you can rent your surfboard and also book a surf lesson. It is IDR 50,000 to rent a surfboard for two hours and around IDR 400,000 for a session with an instructor (around 2 hours). Besides Batu Bolong/Canggu beach.
If you’re already a surfer you can even hire a coach to fine-tune your technique or join in a surf safari where locals take you to the best and hidden local breaks. You can either bring your own board or there are plenty to rent at the beach in reasonable condition. The best place to learn to surf is Canggu Beach. A visit to the market is a chance to see local life. The market is most active in the early morning. You can find fresh fruits from local farmers, organic fruits, vegetables, hand-made accessories, clothes and plenty of healthy and slow cooked food and other produce in the market.
If you’re willing to join a Sunday Market where you can get clothes, food, and jewelry, The Love Anchor Canggu is one of the favorites.
